With no doubt, Dean Jones cricket player is a highly popular name in sports. He averaged 46 tests in his matches. He had a tied test in Madras in 1986 to 1987, which according to Bob Simpson was the greatest innings recorded for the Australian team. However, he was brought to the hospital after the game, but the victory remained for the team.

Aside from his outstanding records in the sport, however, he is also quite popular when it comes to charity works. With this, he also became an admired philanthropist. After his colorful life as a cricketer, he tried another niche by working as a commentator. One of the recent events where he worked as a commentator was the SBS during the Ashes Series in 2005.

While devoting his skills and passion in cricketing for two decades, he also offered his self to charity in various ways. He would often host charity dinners serving as fundraising activities for charities. In these activities, he would let celebrity guests and media personnel get engaged to increase the chance of generating more funds to help more people.

In 2002, Dean Jones worked with a fellow cricket celebrity Alan Border by walking from Sydney to Brisbane, which is a total of 1000 kilometers distance to raise $800,000. The money was donated to a Brisbane-based foundation charity helping patients with leukemia. Dean Jones walked with Alan Border as they attended some other fundraising functions along the said route.

Meanwhile, Dean Jones with his wife walked from Sydney to Melbourne in 2003. The distance was about 1150 kilometers. The couple did this to raise more than $1 million dollars for the benefit of the Bone Marrow Donor Institute, which they can use in their hunt for a medical cure for leukemia.

In year 2004, another charity event was spearhead by Dean Jones. Cricket players have also supported this one. He supported another cricket player David Boon to walk at a distance of 600 kilometers to raise $600,000. This is also for the benefit of the Bone Marrow Donor Institute. He also assisted in looking for other celebrities who could join the cause.
